Kalanı, petrolden elde edilen kimyasal maddelerle yapılan yapay (sentetik) kauçuktur.    Doğal kauçuk kauçukağacının (Hevea brasiliensis) kabuğundan akan sütümsü özsudan (lateks) elde edilir. Bu ağacın en iyi yetiştirildiği bölgeler ekvatorun çevresidir. Doğal kauçuk yetiştiren başlıca ülkeler; Brezilya, Nijerya, Liberya, Zaire, Güney Hindistan, Sri Lanka, Malezya, Endonezya, Tayland ve Filipinler’dir.
